NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT)
20 November
Non-destructive testing is used to detect discontinuities such as crack, corrosion, or manufacturing defects without damaging their future usefulness. NDT is applied to all stages of the production process from raw material, fabrication process, finished product, and also after service. NDT is an essential element for quality control of the product, particularly for pressure vessel, process equipment, piping, and steel structure.
NDT uses principles of physics such as radiation, light, sound wave, magnetic, and electric energy to evaluate properties of material and component. Each method has its own advantages and limitations based on its capability, sensitivity, and cost.
